I think all vintage shoppers have those few things that they always stop for. For me, the first thing is art. Pieces that look hand sketched or painted with watercolors. I'm typically drawn to anything that involves boats or coastal landscapes.
I don't know if it is because I used to draw when I was younger, or if I appreciate the time and skill that goes into each piece. Or maybe it's just the way it looks. The blend of blues and greens definitely speaks to my design aesthetic.
Another thing that draws me in is linens. And when I say linens I don't not necessarily mean bed linens. I love the softness and beauty of actual linen. And, to no surprise, I'm also drawn to blue and white fabrics. They don't even have to be vintage. I love the look of the utility fabrics found in France. I'm hoping to bring some home from my upcoming Paris trip. I can already see them used to create pillows and bags. I have this romantic idea that I will come home and sew beautiful things with them. I probably won't, but it sounds like a great idea!
Ornate picture frames also call to me. I have been collecting them for years. I really should start using them to create a gallery wall on my staircase. The combination of collected frames and hand-drawn art that will adorn my two-story foyer will be magnifique when I finally get around to hanging them!!
